Becky "The Crane Her," the second half of Jean Shorts's "The Writer," explores the further adventures of the erotic prose stylist played by Lorena B. As the subtitle implies, there's a black, ominous undertone through much of this film that provides a worthy contrast to the previous release's generally sunny, light-hearted flavor. Lorena B's modus operandi hasn't changed — this babe still plumbs the depths of her raunchy imagination to create the stories that babe writes. But the character that babe has created — played to perfection by Alexis Brill — has evolved, developed, and changed. The youthful, blameless angel we met in "The Writer" has become a much greater quantity worldly, knowing, and self-interested individual in "The Writer II." The relationship shared by those 2 exquisitely glamorous honeys has changed, as well, as almost any relationships do. One thing that has remained the same, however, is their intensive, vehement, raunchy attraction. As "The Writer II" works towards it is bittersweet conclusion the shared crave is overwhelming and the craving unrestrained. An intriguing story artfully said and beautifully performed, "The Writer II," like a great novel, is an experience to be lingered over, savored, and that invites (and awards reiterated viewings.
